ABC’s The Taste: My 2nd (sort-of) Brush with Hollywood

September 26, 2014 By ericaeckman

Erica's ABC's the Taste Audtion
Recently, I thought it would be fun to give auditioning for a cooking show another try. This time, I saw that ABC’s The Taste was coming to Chicago and figured why not!

I headed over to the “cattle call” like audition with my famous Ancho Chile BBQ Chicken tacos topped with a tangy tropical guacamole and caramelized onions. Basically, I had 3 minutes to plate my dish for the judges and then talk about it with them for a few minutes. Long story short, my confidence shined and I was asked to move forward in the audition process.

Because of confidentiality reasons, I’m not able to share how far I got and what the remainder of the process was like. What I can share with you is my short audition video I made as part of the process. It’s pretty embarrassing, but I feel like it’s a way for you all to get to know me a little bit better :).

So without further ado…here is my ABC’s The Taste audition video…

Thank you to my beautiful friends who helped me film this video of my somewhat boring (yet totally food related) life. I especially want to thank Jessica who literally spent 5 hours filming and cooking with me. I appreciate that she went along with my crazy idea to cook a random dish with crowd sourced ingredients for the first time on camera. She’s the best.

So…I didn’t make it to the show this time, but that won’t stop me! I have a mission to show every single person that cooking is fun, easy and light hearted. I believe anyone can become a great cook and I will keep working hard so that some day I can share this vision on TVs across America.

To be successful, you need to keep following your dream no matter what anyone tells you. This isn’t the first time I’ve been rejected from a show and I know this won’t be the last. And honestly, I’m okay with it. 🙂

Love always,
Erica

Good luck w/masterchef. That would be awesome and so cool to watch you on the show. I’d make you tell Gordo what’s up for me
