Winter has hit a new low this season in Chicago, making it really difficult to get dressed every day! Staying warm AND chic during the winter was a fashion challenge I used to face.
I’ll admit it; it’s difficult to pull off a good look when the wind chills are -15°F.
Not to mention, Mother Nature has become the new snow queen “Elsa” with the Bomb Cyclone and the constant temperature dropping. In the previous years, I would sacrifice my warmth for fashion. Those were my teenage years; I know better now (haha).
Lucky for you, I’ll be sharing the 3 must-have statement pieces to stay fashionable and warm this season.
Fun coat
Investing in a coat is a must this winter. It’s the one item everyone will notice first, thus you want to pick a coat that’s chic with character. Try something classy, like an all white coat, or trendy, like a faux fur one. Whatever you decide on picking, select one that will stand out 😉

Leggings/ tights
I previously mentioned on my Instagram post how the key to staying warm is through layers. I wear bulky leggings or tights underneath my pants for warmth. My favorite pair of leggings are the ones from Target, because they are thick and comfortable as well! You don’t need to spend a lot of money on them either. They’re truly the ideal pair of leggings for this chilly season.
If I hadn’t mentioned it, you wouldn’t even know I’m wearing them. No one can see them and I’m not cold; it’s a win-win situation!
Cozy scarf
Tie your winter look with an oversize and comfy scarf. If it’s one thing I’ve learned from my mom is to always cover your chest (haha). I can hear her now telling me exactly that, “Michelle, cubrete ese pecho!”
The best snuggly scarves are those that are knitted. I wish I could make my own, but for now, I’ll continue buying them instead. Another alternative style of scarves would be infinity ones. You can wrap them around twice for extra bulkiness.
With these three fashionable pieces, you can stay trendy with the perfect amount of warmth.
