Apple Crisp

October 19, 2018 By ericaeckman

As Elia is getting older and is starting to enjoy more outside activities, we’ve been trying to come up with things to do as a family as often as we can. With fall in full swing (and her love of apples), apple picking seemed perfect! It was a lovely day spent together and not only did she have a blast, but we picked an abundance of apples.

Right when we got home I couldn’t wait to get in the kitchen and whip up my favorite apple crisp recipe. It’s so simple and I promise you’ll be craving it all season long.

This recipe is one I bring out every year because everyone loves it. Bring it to a dinner party or enjoy it on a brisk Sunday, there’s no wrong time for apple crisp!

Ingredients

Filling

  • 8 Medium Apples peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
  • 3 tbsp Butter melted
  • 1/4 cup Flour
  • 1 tsp Vanilla
  • 1 tsp Water
  • 1/4 cup Brown Sugar
  • 1 tsp Cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp Nutmeg
  • Salt

Topping

  • 1/2 cup Quick-Cooking Oats
  • 1/2 cup All Purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup Packed Brown Sugar
  • 1/8 tsp Baking Powder
  • 1/8 tsp Baking Soda
  • 1/4 cup Butter melted

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Lightly grease a cast iron pan (or casserole dish if you don’t have one) and set aside.
  • In a bowl, whisk together melted butter and flour until well combined and then add water and vanilla. Once combined, add in brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and pinch of salt.
  • Pour mixture over thinly sliced apples. Then, pour apple mixture into greased baking dish and spread into an even layer. Set aside.
  • Combine the oats, flour, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda and melted butter together. Crumble evenly over the apple mixture.
  • Bake until top is golden brown and apples are tender when pierced with a toothpick. About 40 minutes.
  • Remove from oven and let it sit for 10 minutes. Serve warm with ice-cream and caramel!

Love always,
Erica
