5 (MORE) Tips for Traveling with a Toddler

Traveling with a toddler can be really stressful, but with a little planning and the right tips and tricks, it can actually be really fun. A few weeks ago, I was on a 4 hour plane ride with Elia (her 6th flight of that month) and I realized, I finally figured it out! I decided to put together this blog post and I couldn’t believe how well received it was! Helping you guys makes me the happiest ever!
After I posted this, so many of you flooded my inbox with other incredible tips! Since the holidays are fast approaching, I wanted to be able to share a few more with you because I know many of you will be traveling for the first time with your kiddos. These tips are helpful whether you’re traveling by plane, train or automobile!So without further ado…here are 5 MORE tips for you to travel this holiday season:1. STOCK UP on milk. This tip is coming DIRECTLY from my personal experience. Did you know most airplanes don’t have milk on board? Did you know you can actually pack your own milk (even if it’s over the ounce limit)? All you have to do is let them know at security and they will pull all your cups and scan them separately. It’s painless and SO worth it.About a year ago, we made the silly mistake thinking we’d only take one cup full with us because they surely have some on the plane. Wrong. To this day, I’ve never been on an airplane that has milk so make sure you have a lot! I bring one cup of milk for every 1.5 hours of flying time.It’s game changer and you need to make sure you’re fully loaded up for those flights!
2. Purchase a Jet Kids Suitcase. After I posted my first set of tips, a few of you reached out to tell me about Jet Kids and I almost fell over (big shout out to my abroad college roomie, @cl_virginie for telling me about it first). This carry-on suitcase does it all. Your kids can ride it through the airport (or you can pull them) and it even turns into a bed on the airplane. Game…CHANGER! We got Elia this pink one a few months back and it’s been one of the best investments we’ve made.
3. Pack TONS of wipes (we swear by Water Wipes). This was such a great tip by my follower, @lavachka and I needed to share it with you. Every single time we travel, the pressure of the airplane makes all Elia’s cups explode when we open them (and as I just mentioned, we bring a lot of milk). There has been more than one occasion where we’ve had liquid covering our row and didn’t have any wipes to clean up quickly. Not fun. Additionally, kids can get messy in general so having the wipes readily available is much easier than waiting for a flight attendant to come and bring you a cocktail napkin (or 100)!
4. Put your toddler in an overnight diaper! This was a brilliant tip from my follower, @britpritoakes! Since you don’t want to get up to change your kid every hour, using a more absorbent diaper is the way to go. It’s kind of a no-brainer and I am not sure why I hadn’t thought of it before! Love it!5. Get them a frequent flyer number! This tip came from my husband and I think it’s super cute! Even if you don’t travel a ton, it’s nice to establish a frequent flyer number for them and get them started with earning miles  when they are young! As long as you fly that airline once every 2 years, the miles don’t usually expire (at least they don’t on American). My hubby thinks it would be so cool to gift Elia all these miles when she graduates college. I love that!
