If you’ve never had a Blooming Onion before, then you’re missing out! This delicious appetizer is the perfect crowd pleaser for its aesthetic look and crispy texture.
I use to always order it when I would go out to eat. However, when you order this at a restaurant, you’re hit with 84 grams of fat. Restaurants create the Blooming Onion by deep frying it! Being that I’m currently on the Weight Watchers program, I knew I couldn’t indulge in this anymore.
That’s why I’ve found a way to indulge in my cravings without adding to the waistline! I’m going to show you how to create this Slimmed Down Blooming Onion without sacrificing the taste and crunch. My recipe has just 8 grams (including the entire Horsey sauce recipe). Trust me, you’re not going to want to forget about this. The entire thing (including sauce) is 24 points.
Slimmed Down Blooming Onion
Ingredients
Method
- Cut your onion. Check out my Instagram story highlight called “Bloomin’ Onion” to see how it’s done. It’s actually easy!
- Make the coating! Grab 2 big bowls. In the first bowl, mix any beer or seltzer, 1/2 cup of flour and egg. In the second bowl, mix up 1 cup all-purpose flour, corn starch, salt, cayenne pepper, paprika, ground black pepper, dried oregano, dried thyme and ground cumin.
- Dip it! Dip the onion in the beer batter first and be sure to get in all between all the petals. Do the same in the flour mixture. Then put it back in the batter.
- Place in the airfryer carefully. Spray the entire onion in cooking spray or olive oil spray and airfry 360 for 15 minutes or until done. It all depends on size of onion!!! If you want to bake it, do so at 425 for like 15-18 minutes.
- Next, make that addicting sauce horsey sauce. For this, all you do is mix together the ingredients mentioned above.
- Serve hot and prepare to never ever, ever, ever order this at a restaurant again.
Whether you’re hosting a party or want to impress your family with this flower-like dish, I highly recommend making this Slimmed Down Blooming Onion. Not only is it delicious but super easy to make and a lot more healthier than the ones from a restaurant.
Hope you enjoy this skinny version!
Love always,
