Shamrock Shake Remake

March 5, 2015 By ericaeckman

Shamrock Shake Remake
Can we have a heart to heart?

I know you’re not going to like me very much for telling you this, but that Shamrock Shake you’re drinking from McDonalds has enough sugar, calories and fat in it to destroy any diet.  If the 660 calories, 19 grams of fat and 93 grams of sugar don’t scare you, how about the list of 54 (yes 54) ingredients and obscure additives?  What about the fact that a 16oz of this green shake has about the same amount of calories as a Big Mac and a small french fry?

Nutty bananas.

Like most of you, I am a Shamrock Shake fanatic. I used to wait every year for it’s release and grab one at least 5 times over the course of the month (March is my birthday month so it seemed justified). With the wedding coming up (and the fact that the Shamrock Shake just plain awful for you), I really can’t splurge and go for my usual March McDonalds trips.

Now, I’m in Shamrock Shake recovery mode and I’ve created a recipe that is MUCH healthier for you. I’m warning you now, this isn’t going to be one of those Paleo versions with avocado and kale. This is the real deal… just done a little bit healthier.

Shamrock Shake Remake

Indulge this healthier, Shamrock Shake version without worrying about the calories or grams of sugar!
Prep Time10 mins
Total Time10 mins
Course: Dessert
Cuisine: American
Keyword: Healthy, McDonalds, Shamrock Shake, Shamrock Shake Copy Cat, Shamrock Shake Remake
Servings: 1

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Vanilla Frozen Yogurt Stonyfield and Edy’s makes a really great low cal version
  • 1 1/4 cup Almond Milk unsweetened to save some calories
  • 1/4 tsp Mint Extract don't use peppermint!
  • 3 Ice Cubes more or less depending on how thick you like it
  • Few Drops of Green Food Coloring for good measure

Instructions

  • Throw it all in a blender, mix it up and drink! Start with a couple of ice cubes because you can always add more if you want it thicker.

Like I mentioned before, I’m not claiming this recipe to be a super healthy alternative. It is however, much better for you. Depending on the kind of frozen yogurt you use, this recipe will clock in at about 250-300 calories, 4 grams of fat and 31 grams of sugar. So yes…you just saved yourself about 50 grams of sugar and the taste is hardly sacrificed. Now, that’s something you can feel good about!

Love always,
Erica
